Shinbukan
Shinbukan is a school run by Ishido Shizufumi Sensei (hanshi 8th dan) in Kanagawa, and our direct teacher is one of his students, Victor Cook (kyōshi 7th Dan).

If you do not know the Japanese grading system, hanshi is the highest grade awarded, and kyōshi is the highest grade in iaido that has been awarded outside Japan.

There are several Shinbukan dojos in southern England, in Sussex, Kent, Surrey, and the Isle of Wight. Shinbukan family dojos can also be found in Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Poland.
Our students may take ikkyu and dan gradings under the auspices of the Canadian Kendo Federation, and these grades will be internationally recognised. All students using iaito or shinken must be members of the CKF for insurance reasons.
Other schools in Canada emphasise the meditative elements of iai and precision of technique. These are important aspects that we do not neglect, but we teach Iaido primarily as a martial art.
